CHANGE IS GOOD

Following our incorporation as a CIC in August 2011 there has been some restructuring at WSAC. This has led to a shift in focus. While we continue to offer our popular and highly regarded practical arts skills sessions we have significantly increased our Creativity for Learning and Business provision with an increased emphasis on a blended approach to delivery.

Two major new workshops have been added to our programme for 2012. Creativity R&H (the R&H standing for Recovery and Harnessing) and Digital Literacy Pix & Mix, follow the links for further details. With a number of innovative and engaging new courses currently in development we are looking forward to an exciting year ahead and very much hope you will join us on the journey.

ART FOR ALL

Personalised art tuition for all ages and abilities.

Whether you are retired and wanting to start a new hobby or a parent looking for affordable arts opportunities for your children, the West Suffolk Arts Centre can offer you a range of 2-hour, half-day, one-day and three-day practical art skills workshops (see list) tailored to your individual requirements. Sessions are held in village halls, community centres and other local venues throughout East Anglia, even in your own home.

ART / CRAFT PARTIES

We offer a range of fun art or craft activities for children of all ages.

Every party is tailored specifically for the age and ability of the young people invited. At the end of the session your guests will have their own special piece of art to take home with them - far more original than a 'goody' bag!

Popular parties include:

T-shirt decorating, Mask Making, Sugarcraft, Secret Books, Paper Craft, Making Mosaics, Clay Heads, Cartooning and Graffiti Art.

HOME EDUCATION

Since 2004, the West Suffolk Arts Centre has specialised in running workshops for home educated young people.

No young person is exactly like another and over the years we have come to understand that parents choose to home educate their children for a variety of reasons. We therefore aim to offer completely personalised learning experiences through which all participants are able to engage in creative self-expression in an informal, social setting. Group sizes are kept deliberately small and our tutors are experienced in teaching young people with a wide range of educational needs.

We are particularly pleased to be able to offer courses leading to accredited qualifications through the Trinity Guildhall/Arts Council England 'Arts Award' scheme. 'Arts Award' aspires to support any young person to enjoy the arts and develop creative leadership skills. Offered at levels 1, 2 and 3 on the National Qualifications Framework, 'Arts Award' can be achieved at three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The West Suffolk Arts Centre is able to provide an adviser at all levels and in all subject areas, while offering taught classes in Visual Arts, Creative Writing, Filmmaking and Theatre/Drama.

We currently run 'Arts Award' groups in Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Chelmsford, and Lopham (near Diss). New members are always welcome at our existing groups - please contact us for further information.

SUFFOLK - Brandon - Wednesday mornings (visual arts)
CAMBRIDGESHIRE - Cambridge - alternate Friday mornings (visual arts)
ESSEX - Online only at present - alternate Tuesday mornings (photography / visual arts)
NORFOLK - Lopham (near Diss) - alternate Tuesdays (morning: visual arts; afternoon: filmmaking, performing arts, and creative writing)

If you would like us to start a new 'Arts Award' group in your area we would need a minimum of six young people between the ages of 8-18* to sign up for at least six sessions (a no-obligation taster session is offered to all sa groups). We would also ask you to help us to find a village hall, community centre or other suitable space in which the group could meet (we pay for the venue-hire).

In addition we can provide GCSE and A-Level support in Art, English (Lit. and Lang.) and History for both home- and school-educated students.
*If you are aged 19 or over please contact us for more details of our Individual Learning Support Services.
